Week 2.3 Coming Up

#LoveWell - Going In or Going Through???

Many pivots have been made this year.  We have witnessed more pivots than ever this year regarding gradebook, attendance submission, building instruction that meets the  needs of F2F and AHL, and combatting COVID, and these pivots were essential to adapt to the expectations given to us from the state. Some pivots have made our lives easier, and some have made them challenging.  With all of the changes that every school in America is going through, it is safe to say that education as a whole is in a valley right now.

The question we must ask ourselves is whether we are in a valley or going through it.  If we are in a valley, there is no hope of getting out of it.  We are overcome by doubt, despair, defeat, etc.  But if we are going through the valley, we know without a doubt that we will eventually get out.  In order to go through the valley, we must remember that the only ways to get out are to stay focused on our kids, have faith in the process, believe in one another, work together through problems, and never ever forget that tough times don't last forever.  Tough people do.

Furthermore, we must also never forget that to get through the valley, we must develop our patience and endurance and realize that if we work through challenges with each other, and be patient with each other, we will get through the valleys that life throw at us. 

Never forget that you are not alone. We will get through this.  Stay encouraged.  Stay positive, and stay patient.  You are doing a great job!  You are providing a 1st class education in a safe environment with all the necessary resources to guarantee EVERY child's success.

• October is NATIONAL PRINCIPALS MONTH.  Take some time this month to show your appreciation for your campus leaders.  #ThankAPrincipal
• 8-12 Essential Skills - With the pressures of converting to at-home learning and closing gaps, it is more important than ever to identify your 8-12 Essential Skills and make them the foundation of your instruction.  Deconstructing these skills by component and level of proficiency as well as checking for vertical alignment of those skills will provide focus for your instruction.

Another Great Math Resource from Linda Kimberly

ASSISTments at https://new.assistments.org/ is a math-oriented webiste.  It has homework practices and quizzes only, but it links to different textbooks and curriculum from around the US.  You can find practices for primarily grades 5-Algebra 1, but there are some curricula, like EngageNY, that go down as far as first grade.  What I like about this site is that it grades the students' work as they enter it, so feedback is immediate.  Better, though, is that it send the teacher feedback on the error trends for the kids so that they can focus on the main instructional issues by not wasting time on stuff all of the kids already know.
