Congratulations! You have completed the 4th 6 weeks! We are almost to the the end of the 3rd quarter (spring break), and our kids are making huge progress. Thank you for your work!
What will change in the 4th quarter for your kids? If you base it off of feelings, you may not make the right change, but if you make changes based on the data, your kids are giving you, you will always be right.
The RtA (Response to Assessment) process was designed to help you narrow your focus on the instructional changes that need to be made as well as the intervention changes that your kids need to close their gap. Pay close attention to the BIG SKILLS that students are missing and drive your intervention around those skills. You will see major progress in student learning.

Starting a Movement - Authentic Alignment
In chapter 2 of our Starting a Movement Book Study, Williams and Hierck introduce the concept of Authentic Alignment. They describe Authentic Alignment in this way. When our beliefs about ALL kids are aligned with our actions to guarantee the success of ALL kids, we have authentic alignment. Our actions get stronger when they match our beliefs, and our beliefs grow when we do the work.
In our book study this week, I would like to invite you to share a quote from the book or a thought about alignment. What is resonating with you about our work that is leading us closer to authentic alignment. Think about our 5 Plays: RtA (Response to Assessment), The 8-12 Essential Skills, Lesson Planning, Professional Learning, and Consistency among all classrooms.

- Mandatory Cybersecurity Training - We have dedicated some time for you to complete mandatory cybersecurity training on February 17. You can complete this training early if you prefer. 40% of the staff have already done so.
- Enter your grades for grade submission.
- Please be sure to adhere to the expectations set forth by our insurance company
- Extension cords are not allowed.
- Refrigerators are only allowed in break rooms and science department prep rooms. NOTE: Self Contained Special Education rooms are allowed to have a refrigerator for student needs.
- Microwaves are allowed only in the break rooms
- Fans/heaters are not allowed. Battery operated fans are OK.
- Clear closets and rooms of clutter.

We all have experience with alignment as most of us have attended vertical team meetings. My "a-ha" moment was when I was asked to consider authenticity. Considering authenticity brings everything we do for students (five plays) back to the core values of CISD. That we are committed to the future of ALL of our students by ensuring that we are successful with them during our 1/13th.
ReplyDeleteIt hit home with me when the author speaks of Authenticity. If we don't have truthfulness, commitment, sincerity and devotion, then we are not doing justice to those we are serving.
ReplyDeleteA quote from the book that hit home with me is "There are no excuses, just variables." I am personally guilty of using factors we cannot control such as parental support and socioeconomic challenges as excuses. Instead we should use that information as motivation to work harder on the variables we can control.
ReplyDeleteThe quote that resonated with me was "When there's no connection between what we do and why we do it, the best a school can hope for is compliance." I firmly believe that authentic alignment will prevail when we fully understand the "why" behind "what" we are doing.
ReplyDeleteI also liked the quote “When there’s no connection between what we do and why we do it, the best a school can hope for is compliance”. It made me think of something my husband has said many times in sermons, “God doesn’t want our begrudging submission.” The same can be said of our schools. Compliance (doing it because we have to) is not enough, we need buy-in. We need people to believe in what we’re doing, and authentic alignment (connecting the what to the why) plays a big role in getting to that point.
