Week 1.4

#BeTheLIGHT
Typing Skills are starting early at Libby.
Now that first 3 weeks of school is over, we have almost reached the 20 day mark.  After 20 days, routines have been formed and habits are setting in.  With discipline, students can begin to falter if we fail to stay consistent in our response to behavior.

This week, I challenge you review your team consistency plan for routines and procedures.  Specifically review the team plans for reinforcing behaviors and intercepting behaviors.  Is your positive to negative comment ratio higher on negatives or positives?

If you think about how we respond to those who lead us, when we receive communication with a positive to constructive ratio of 3:1, we generally respond with greater effort.  Student are no different.  When positives to negatives reach 8:1, we tend to get complacent.  Now it's obvious, but we must mention that if the ratio turns more negative or less than 1:1, student frustration for low performers or struggling students can impede learning.  We all grow best with specific feedback that pushes us forward.

Here is an article I read last week, 8 Proactive Classroom Management Tips.  I found it very helpful, especially for those who need more positive interactions.
