As we end the school year, many of us are tired, ready to get out of school and start the summer break. But before you get too far down the road with that thought, I would like for us to reflect on how much harder our jobs would have been if we hadn't had parental support. Think about this. Some parental support you saw when you reached out for help, but sometimes you never saw parental support directly because the kids were so good in the classroom.
Parents are a pivotal part of our system and sometimes we take that support for granted. With the last week of school, I would like to invite you to join me in thanking parents for their work in making our school year a success. There are 2700 students and 400 employees. That is almost 7 children per employee. I challenge you to reach out to 7 families this week and tell them how much you appreciate the work they put into raising their child. You might reach out to the parent of a perfect student, or you may want to call the parents that always supported you when their child was difficult. Perhaps you could contact a parent that you didn't see eye to eye with. Parents do the best they can to support us with their most prize possession, and it never hurts to let them know we appreciate their help and support.
The fact of the matter is that our school system, at its most basic level, is comprised of a partnership between home and the school. Let's take a little time this week, and thank parents for their hard work this year. Who knows? It could lead to a stronger foundation and partnership for next year.
